POWER: Romania to Mandate Energy Storage for Prosumers

Romania’s parliament has adopted a bill that will mandate solar prosumers that have PV capacities between 10.8-400kW to install energy storage systems as prosumer capacity has climbed to around 1.7GW as of April, it said, cited by Bloomberg.
- Prosumers must allocate 30% of their storage capacity for 3-200 kW systems and 50% for 200-400 kW systems.
- The change comes as the Romanian energy system currently operates at a surplus, and this trend is expected to continue due to low consumption and increasing production capacity from new power plants and prosumers.
- Prosumers must install storage facilities by December 31, 2027. Failure to do so will result in a modification of their connection certificates, limiting discharge into the grid to 3kW, despite the production unit's capacity, according to the government.
