REFINING: Drone Stike on Russia's Saratov Refinery but No Critical Damage

A Ukrainian drone attack struck an oil refinery in the Russian city of Saratov but caused no significant damage, a Reuters source said on Nov. 8.

  • The Ukraine strike is the first on Russian crude processing facilities in more the two months.
  • The strike had caused damage, a Ukrainian intelligence source said, but refining operations would not be affected, according to a local source.
  • "An inspection was performed - luckily, there was no fire, casualties or critical damage," the source said.
  • The Saratov refinery has installed capacity of 140kbpd and processed 115.4kbpd in Jan-Sep 2024, producing motor fuels, vacuum gasoil, fuel oil and bitumen.
  • Overnight 17 drones were downed including six in the Saratov region, Russian Defense Ministry said.

  • 2s10s 1bp flatter since Logan’s comments.
  • Bears push TYZ4 to session fresh lows at 112-10+, just above yesterday’s low (112-10), before a recovery to 112-12+.
  • A break of yesterday’s base would expose round number support at 112-00.
  • The recently covered block buy in WN futures helps the space stabilise.
  • A little more Fed rate cut premium removed from the market, with ~117bp of cuts now priced through June ’25 vs. ~120bp heading into the comments.
