Reuters reporting comments from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi following the conclusion of a second round of indirect nuclear talks with the US in Geneva, Switzerland. Araghchi said, “We've reached an understanding on main principles with the US. There has been good developments compared to last round. The two parties will work on potential agreement documents and exchange them.”
- Araghchi added, managing expectations for an immediate breakthrough, that the “two parties still have topics on which they still need to work. This does not mean that we will reach an agreement soon, but the path has started.”
- Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told PressTV ahead of talks that Tehran is willing to extend indirect talks with the US in Geneva "for days or even weeks" to reach an agreement, as "time is very important for us."
- Iranian journalist Mahammad Ghaderi noted on X earlier a potential positive step towards restarting IAEA inspections with could buy goodwill with the US team: "...a member of the National Security Commission of the Parliament announced that Iran's SNSC has agreed to the IAEA's visit to nuclear facilities."
- While the initial signs appear positive, it remains to be seen if any Iranian compromise deal will deliver a sufficient enough reduction in Iran's enriched uranium stockpile to avert US military action. WSJ reported earlier that Iran and regional diplomats may be considering a "splashy" multipoint plan that includes everything from nonaggression commitments to business deals aimed at grabbing US President Donald Trump's attention.
