Highlights from Chinese press reports on Friday:
- The Sino-German economic and trade cooperation now involves German automakers deeply integrating with China’s high-tech and intelligent enterprises, said Zheng Chunrong, director of the German Research Center at Tongji University. German manufacturers are increasingly adopting Chinese digital platforms to upgrade traditional fuel vehicles with smart capabilities and are jointly developing next-generation intelligent cars. In the past, cooperation largely centred on German vehicle imports and large-scale manufacturing in China, he noted. The partnership has since shifted from one-way technology transfer to two-way integration and joint development, Zheng added. (Source: Yicai)
- The yuan will likely stay relatively strong after the Spring Festival, supported by solid export growth and firm market sentiment, said Wang Qing, chief macro analyst at Golden Credit Rating International. Over the longer term, however, the yuan’s exchange rate will hinge on the greenback’s performance, shifts in China’s external trade environment and the effectiveness of domestic growth-stabilisation policies, he said. Chen Liqing, senior macro analyst at GF Securities, said the yuan’s one-way trend in 2026 will likely be less pronounced than in the previous two quarters, with more two-way fluctuations, though it may still post a modest appreciation for the year overall. - China will adopt both mandatory and voluntary green energy consumption during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, said Li Chuangjun, director at the National Energy Administration. Authorities will expand green electricity consumption targets to cover more key energy-intensive industries, progressively increase the required shares and strengthen monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. The nation will ensure a steady growth in new energy supply and place greater emphasis on improving quality and reinforcing the role of non-fossil energy as the principal pillar of the new-type energy system, Li said.
