UK GDP rose 0.1% in Q3 2025, below the consensus of City analysts (+0.2%) and lower than the 0.3% growth seen in Q2, the Office for National Statistics said Thursday.

Production weighed on output, weighed in large part by a sharp declined in car production and a weak pharmaceutical sector. Services were the main upward driver to growth, the ONS noted.

Monthly GDP saw a decline of 0.1% m/m in September, following downwardly revised flat growth in August. “Growth slowed further in the third quarter of the year with both services and construction weaker than in the previous period. There was also a further contraction in production," ONS Director of Economic Statistics Liz McKeown said, noting car production in September, was hit by the the impact of a cyber incident (at JLR).

Overall, the data will be a further disappointment to the government less than two weeks before the budget as they continue to focus on the growth agenda for the UK economy.
