Stephen Miran said Thursday he intends to keep his job at the White House while serving the short remainder of a governor's term at the Federal Reserve. If confirmed by the Senate Banking Committee, Miran would be in office for four months before the 14-year term must be renewed.

"I have received advice from counsel that what is required is an unpaid leave of absence from the Council of Economic Advisors. Considering the term for which I'm being nominated is a little bit more than four months, that is what I will be taking," he told the committee. "I'm committed to the independence of the Federal Reserve."

A number of Democratic senators in the hearing raised concerns about possible conflicts of interest raised by the arrangement.
