The European Union does not feel pressured to get any kind of trade deal with the United States and should hold out for an ambitious agreement, better than those recently announced between US and China and the US and UK, Polish Trade Minister Michal Baranowski told reporters this morning.
However, the minister accepted the deal with China was "a good first step when it comes to de-escalation" and noted that the agreement would mean that diversion of Chinese exports to Europe was now less likely.
EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic said that contacts with the US at the technical level would intensify in the coming days and weeks. The officials made the comments ahead of an EU trade ministers' meeting this morning.
