The Kashagan oil field in Kazakhstan has started to gradually ramp up oil production after a gas leak forced 170kbpd of crude oil output offline, people familiar with the matter said.

  • The initial production cut when the leak was first found was 100kbpd.
  • The checks at the wells have been completed and production began to increase on Wednesday, the people said.
  • Kashagan’s output in May was down by 8% because of the leak. Kazakhstan's crude oil production stood at 1.55mbpd last month, down by 3% from April levels according to Reuters calculations.
