Q2 results out on Friday, leverage down, neutral for spreads.
JSW Steel reported its Q2 results after market close Friday, with operating EBITDA up 39% YoY to INR78bn. EBITDA margins expanded from 14.2% in 2Q24 to 17.4% in 2Q25. Leverage declined modestly, neutral for spreads.
The EBITDA improvement was driven by a 17% YoY rise in crude steel production, aided by ramp-ups in new capacities, alongside reductions in iron ore, coking coal, and power costs.
On credit metrics, net debt to EBITDA improved to 2.97x from 3.2x in the previous quarter and 3.3x at end-FY25, remaining below management’s targeted cap of 3.75x. Capex is expected to stay elevated for the next 2-3 years.
Moody's upgraded the outlook to positive early October, an upgrade trigger being growth in earnings from higher capacity, with debt stable, such that Moody's adjusted leverage is below 3.5x (forecasts 3.0x-3.5x next 12-18mths). No near-term change to ratings expected.
In terms of valuations, the USD 32s are around 20bp wide of the recent tights seen following the Moody's upgrade at z+218bp.
