HUNGARY: Foreign Minister Continues Talks in Washington Following Bessent Meet

  • Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto continues talks in Washington after meeting Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Wednesday. Szijjarto said yesterday that the two discussed starting talks on reinstating a treaty between the US and Hungary on avoiding double taxation, as well as ending sanctions. A US Treasury readout said Bessent discussed shared economic and national security priorities.
  • MEPs of the opposition Tisza Party on Wednesday slammed the Fidesz delegation, saying "Fidesz is not interested in ensuring crucial cohesion funding for Hungarians unless they can steal from it," MTI report.
  • There are no major data releases scheduled for today, or for the remainder of the week. The NBH rate decision on Feb 25 the next domestic risk event of note, while Prime Minister Orban will deliver a state-of-nation address over the weekend.
