ARGENTINA: Focus On November CPI This Week

Dec-09 12:36
  • November CPI data are due on Wednesday, when analysts expect the headline inflation rate to moderate to 167% y/y, from 193%, according to the latest Bloomberg survey. In m/m terms, prices are expected to rise by 2.8%, following a 2.7% gain in October. JP Morgan also expects core CPI and ex-food core CPI to decelerate further, with their preferred metric of underlying inflation (core inflation ex-food) printing at 2.9%m/m, from 3.8% 3mma through October.
  • The data will be of particular interest, given comments from President Milei and Economy Minister Caputo in recent weeks that the government will slow the crawling peg on the peso if monthly inflation stays constant or continues to ease.
  • In other news, President Milei has appointed Juan Pazo as head of the tax collecting agency and Pablo Quirno as Secretary of Economic International Relations, according to a post on X by presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni. Milei named Pazo after firing Florencia Misrahi, according to Adorni, following a recent agency measure to modify taxation on social media influencers’ activities.
