European energy ministers from 27 member states are meeting on Tuesday again in an attempt to reach an agreement on the proposed EU gas price cap.

  • Ministers remain divided on the Commission’s proposal to introduce a gas price cap at €275/MWh on the TTF front-month price.
  • Countries remained divided on the proposal in the lead-up to Tuesday's meeting, diplomats said. "At this moment in time, probably not one member state is happy with the proposal we are discussing," a senior EU diplomat said
  • “There is no consensus at this moment on how it needs to work and on the numbers”, Tinne van der Straeten, Belgium’s energy minister said.
  • Failure to reach a deal Tuesday would mean that EU leaders would have to discuss the issue when they convene at a summit on Thursday, before another gathering of energy ministers scheduled for next week.
