US: Potential Threat to Nancy Pelosi's Safety on Taiwan Plans

Jul-20 16:30

Wires have reported over the last 24 hours that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi plans to make a state visit to Taiwan -- the first such visit in appr 25 years making China officials unhappy.

  • Global Times Editor Hu Xijin tweets his opinion on what may happed:
  • "The Chinese mainland has various plans to counteract Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, and I believe what I have said is one of them. It is certain that the mainland’s response to Pelosi’s visit will be unprecedented and will involve shocking military response."
  • "My suggestion to Chinese govt&military: If Pelosi visits Taiwan, PLA military aircraft will accompany Pelosi’s plane to enter the island, making a historic crossing of the island by military aircraft from mainland for the 1st time. Its significance would overwhelm Pelosi’s visit."
  • Markets, if they have noticed the tweets are ignoring the posts at the moment.
