The arrival of Arctic LNG 2’s first cargo via the Cape of Good Hope in China will continue to exert bearish pressure on LNG, according to Platts.
- “The move signals successful testing of the longer trade route with the Northern Sea Route nearing the end of its summer sailing window”, Platts added.
- The La Perouse, a sanctioned Russian LNG carrier, arrived at China’s Tienshan LNG terminal in Port of Beihai Oct. 9 after a 40-day voyage, according to Platts. This is one of the longest voyages undertaken for LNG deliveries.
- The success of the voyage is critical to boosting shipments of LNG from Arctic LNG 2 during the winter when the North Sea route is blocked.
- Meanwhile, the market will watch or any progress of a ceasefire in Gaza, which has the potential to re-open the Red Sea and Suez Canal for LNG traffic, If this were to occur, it would further aid Russian LNG flows to Asia.
