(MNI) London – All timings are subject to change.

Monday 28 April:

  • Canada: Federal election takes place, with PM Mark Carney looking to secure a fourth consecutive term in office for the governing centre-left Liberal party. The opening and closing of polling stations to elect 343 members to the House of Commons is staggered across Canada’s numerous timezones. Results are likely to start filtering through after polls close at 2200ET (0300BST, 1100JST) on the West coast. The election has been dominated by the sharp deterioration in economic and diplomatic relations with the United States. The furore has seen a major shift in public sentiment, with the Liberals recovering from a massive deficit in opinion polling at the start of the year, at the expense of the main opposition Conservatives.

  • The US is unlikely to reach a comprehensive trade deal with South Korea before the country’s presidential election on June 3.
  • The Chinese government continues to deny the existence of trade talks with the US.
  • Canadians head to the polls today to vote in a snap general election that has been upended by Trump's trade war and rhetoric towards Canada’s sovereignty.
  • Ukraine’s backers are hoping a tone shift from the Trump administration could open the door for more favourable negotiations with Russia.
  • Poll of the Day: A majority of US voters think Trump has exceeded his authority.
