IRAN: Hegseth & Caine Cancel Presser As Trump's Deadline Approaches

The Pentagon has confirmed that a scheduled joint press conference by US Secretary of War/Defense Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine has been cancelled. The presser had been due to take place today at at 08:00ET (13:00BST, 14:00CET), 12 hours ahead of US President Donald Trump's deadline for Iran to reopen the Straits of Hormuz or face the bombardment of its power infrastructure and bridges. Both Hegseth and Caine stood alongside Trump during the president's White House presser on Iran on 6 April.
- While the world watches the actions of the US in the run-up to (and eventual aftermath of) the deadline, Israel continues its series of strikes on major facilities in Iran. The Israeli Defence Forces claim to have struck a third petrochemical plant overnight, this time in the region of Shiraz in southwestern Iran. The IDF claims the plant was used for the production of nitric acid, which in turn is utilised in the making of ballistic missiles. Two other chemical plants were struck on 6 April as Israel continues to strike military and infrastructure targets ahead of the US deadline.
