Speaking in Prague following the conclusion of the EU informal meeting of member state heads of gov't, French President Emmanuel Macron states that the 'funding of energy plans by some countries have creates tensions in the EU'.
- Macron likely referring to the substantial EUR200bn energy relief plan put forward by the German gov't. Concerns it will make non-German producers uncompetitive (as large and small businesses stand to benefit from the plan).
- Macron: There were no accords on concrete mechanisms among states on energy because no concrete mechanisms were proposed by the EU Commission [Italian PM Draghi stated Commission should come up with plans before 20 Oct Council summit].
- Macron: "First objective: to have a common message to lower the price of gas, which will involve the coordination of Europeans among themselves [...] especially with our major Asian partners""
