August ANZ job ads rose 2.5%m/m, after a revised 1.9% gain in July. The job ads measure has now been up in m/m terms for four straight months. This puts the level of job ads at the highest since the first half of 2024. The chart plots the level of job ads (the white line) versus the unemployment rate (which is inverted on the chart). All else equal, the strength of job ads isn't pointing to a further sharp weakening in the jobs market (even with the recent rise in the unemployment rate at odds with higher job ads). In y/y terms job ads are now up 7.8%, the strongest rise since the early parts of 2023.
