Sky News has reported that UK government officials are in talks with "major American suppliers" of liquified natural gas to boost imports ahead of an expected winter
spike in demand.
- Sky reports that negotiations are being led by Liz Truss's new Energy Taskforce.
- Sky: "Sources said the talks were at a detailed stage although it was possible that they would not result in an agreement."
- Truss has made energy security a central pillar of her administration and securing a substantial deal may be a rare opportunity to point at a success after a challenging five weeks in office which has seen Morning Consult record her approval rating as the lowest ever of any leader subject to regular polling.
- Truss said the Energy Taskforce, was "already negotiating new long term energy contracts with domestic and international gas suppliers to immediately bring down the cost of this intervention [to reduce household energy bills]".
