Voters in the northwest German state of Lower Saxony go to the polls on Sunday 9 October to elect their regional Landtag. The contest for Germany’s second-largest state by size and fourth most-populous is not set to be a major market-moving event, but nevertheless will have an impact on German politics at a time when the federal government in Berlin is under pressure due to rising energy prices and its response to the war in Ukraine.
