The French government plans to increase the electricity tax as a part of its 2025 budget, it said, cited by local news agency.
- The tax hike could exceed €32.44/MWh, returning to pre-2022 inflation crisis levels, according to Le Parisien
- While Les Echos has cited people familiar with the matter that it could be raised to €40-42/MWh.
- The regulated tariff, used by 60% of households, will adjust to reflect the drop in electricity prices compared to previous years, Les Echos added.
- “Around 80% of our fellow citizens are on the state-regulated rate, and even without the energy cap, they will still have a reduction in their bill of around 10%", the minister of Budget and Public accounts Laurent Saint-Martin added.
