North Asian LNG prices are expected to firm this week amid approaching winter demand and support from forecasts of colder weather, Platts said.

  • Platts assessed the December JKM spot physical price at $13.889/MMBtu Nov. 8, the highest since Oct. 30.
  • The North Asian market saw stronger demand last week as colder weather in Europe drove up competition for cargoes.
  • Activity in Asian market itself remained muted with Chinese buyers still idle due to insufficient activity in its domestic trucked LNG sector.
  • In Japan, stocks rose by 2.4%. Although Kansai Electric and Tohoku Electric’s nuclear reactors were unexpectedly shut, sources said that the shutdowns will only spark a marginal demand increase.
  • In Southeast Asia, limited trading is expected this week, following the previous purchase of several cargoes due for arrival in December.
  • PetroVietnam issued a buy tender Nov. 8 for a 2.5 Tbtu cargo for delivery Dec. 20-Jan. 5.
