US STOCKS: Paring Gains/Extending Lows, US/Iran Headline Focus

  • Geopolitical headlines continue to drive market moves - pendulum swings toward cooling risk-sentiment following as uncertainty remains over latest US/Iran negotiations/rhetoric. Pres Trump's latest run-on social media post appears to be doubling down on threats to Iran after stating the "Clock is Ticking" for Iran earlier.
  • Off early session highs, SPX emini and Nasdaq indexes are currently lower (-.2% to -0.5%), while the DJIA gains slightly (+0.2%).
  • Information Technology and Industrials sector shares led declines ahead midday, profit taking after strong AI driven rallyt last week sees Lumentum Holdings down 10.8%, while the following chip stocks trade -6% to 7.5% lower: Seagate Technology, Coherent Corp, Sandisk Corp, Western Digital and Corning Inc.
  • The Industrials sector weighed by Vertiv Holdings (-7.25%, Comfort Systems USA (-6.0%), while GE Vernova and United Parcel Service Inc trade -4.25% to -3.75%.
  • Energy sectors led advances ahead midday as crude prices rebound: the following up 2-3.5%: SLB, Baker Hughes, EQT Corp, Halliburton and APA Corp.
