A US-EU trade war "should definitely be avoided", Poland's EU presidency said today.

"We must not lose our common sense and the awareness of our European interest," Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said today ahead of an EU special summit on defence in Brussels.

"We need a clear and firm European stance," Tusk added. The comments follow those from US President Trump, who indicated over the weekend that the EU was likely to be among the next targets for tariffs following those announced on China, Canada and Mexico.
