The ECB is "very attentive" to the effects of a stronger euro exchange rate on inflation, Bank of France Governor Francois Villeroy said Thursday in a speech which was otherwise focused on ways to boost the international role of the euro.

Villeroy said that the good reasons for a neutral ECB approach to building the euro's global role - losing control over its monetary policy - were now no longer valid and said officials should focus on how to enhance the euro's global role.

As part of that effort, the EU should put forward "a comprehensive package" of measures to boost the international role of the euro with a clear deadline of the start of 2028.  In addition, the BoF chief also called for an expansion of euro liquidity provision to non-euro central banks to encourage greater international corporate funding and invoicing in euros.
