MNI BRIEF: China Canada To Update Strategic Partnership

China will push a new type of China-Canada strategic partnership, encouraging exchanges and cooperation in various sectors, a statement on Xinhua News Agency said after President Xi Jinping met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday. 

Beijing will emphasize bilateral cooperation in education, culture, tourism, sports, and local communities, facilitating people-to-people exchanges, and is willingness to strengthen communication with Canada within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the G20, and APEC to jointly address global challenges, Xi stated. Carney said Canada is expanding and enhancing cooperation with China in areas such as trade, energy, agriculture, finance, education, and climate change.
