Wires carrying comments from Foreign Ministry spox Esmail Baghaei, speaking at a press conference. Says that "We have ongoing communications with Qatar, which is playing an influential role in the current de-escalation efforts.
- On talks with the US: "We were supposed to negotiate on issues such as the nuclear dossier within 60 days, but given the violation of the [MoU] by the United States, the 60-day discussion no longer holds any relevance."
- On talks with Oman: "The prolonged negotiations with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz are due to the complexity of the issue....Discussions with Oman regarding the text of the joint statement are being conducted with seriousness [and have been] prolonged due to the multitude of involved parties and the efforts of some countries to undermine them."
- Baghaei says "We have not had any meetings with the Americans in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq." Comes after Axios reported at the weekend that Nechirvan Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan region in Iraq, acted as a backchannel between the Trump administration and the IRGC leadership.
- Says that "the negotiating delegation enjoys the complete trust of all branches of the regime." Baghaei adds that "Instigating disagreements between the system's pillars regarding negotiations with the United States is psychological warfare on the other side", effectively trying to imply that the US and Israel are trying to exploit disagreements between various power factions within the Iranian regime to weaken its negotiating abilities.
