A recent poll by the respected Russian independent pollster the Levada Center has further demonstrated the generational divide within Russia on the war in Ukraine.
- The generation gap has been explained as a result of different media consumption patterns between younger and older Russians.
- The vast majority of older Russians receive news from the network of state run news services. Younger Russians are more likely to be connected to international news sources via social media.
- The strong approval of the US amongst young Russians will be a concern for Russian president Vladimir Putin. Putin has already begun taking measure to disconnect the country from Western social media. A Russian court today banned Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram parent company Meta for supporting 'extremism.'
- The poll shows that 60 percent of Russians in the 18-24 age ground have a 'good attitude' towards the US.
