The Advantage Sweet, an oil tanker seized by Iran in April 2023 appears to be sailing away from the country toward international waters, a sign it may have been released, Bloomberg said.
- The ship’s draft is nine metres, compared to 13 metres previously, indicating it may have unloaded its cargo.
- The Advantage Sweet is a Marshall Islands flagged ship and was captures in response to the US seizure of a vessel hauling Iranian oil, the Suez Rajan. The latter was then renamed St Nikolas and later seized by Iran itself earlier this year.
- Shipping in the Middle East has been watched closely following attacks in the Red and Arabian Seas by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.
