Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said Tuesday the country is resilient to any clash over the U.S. debt ceiling that has led to speculation about a potential American default.

“There have been a lot of challenges in the global economy from all kinds of directions since we formed government,” she said in response to a question from MNI after a parliamentary hearing. “We’re used to dealing with big challenges and I want to assure Canadians we’re prepared to deal with whatever comes.”

“Canada’s fiscal position is very strong and stable” and “our banking system is stable and well capitalized,” she said.
