China has called on the U.S. to follow World Trade Organisation rules and work with Beijing to jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system, a China Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) representative told reporters on Monday.

Responding to the publication of U.S’ Report on China's Fulfilment of WTO Commitments, the representative denied claims that China's economic and trade policies pose a significant challenge to global trade.

Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao reiterated China’s commitment to resolving the WTO’s dispute resolution mechanism in a meeting with WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the recent Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi.

Beijing’s exports to the U.S. could return to single digit growth this year as relations cool, and China’s overall trade could hit CNY44-45 trillion with a CNY5-6 trillion trade surplus, a policy advisor recently told MNI. (See MNI INTERVIEW: China Trade To Hit CNY44-45 Trillion In 2024)
