Wall Street Journal reporting that former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley intends to suspend her campaign for the Republican presidential nomination at a speech in Charleston, South Carolina scheduled for around 10:00 ET 15:00 GMT.
- The decision comes after Haley delivered a lukewarm performance on Super Tuesday yesterday, outperforming polling against former President Donald Trump -and notching up a surprise win in Vermont -, but failing to pick up enough delegates to present a credible threat to Trump.
- Haley's withdrawal clears the path for Trump to win sufficient delegates to secure the GOP nomination by March 19 at the latest.
- The Journal notes that Haley is not expected to endorse Trump today and, "will continue to advocate for the conservative domestic and foreign policies she supports and caution against some of the dangers, such as isolationism and a lack of fiscal discipline, that she sees coming from Washington."
