Sacked Defence Minister Yoav Gallant told the Knesset’s Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee that the judicial overhaul pursued by the ruling coalition puts Israel's national security in danger, according to leaked records of the committee's meeting circulated by the local media.
- “According to intelligence reports, there is a clear identification of the situation being an opportunity [for our enemies] to attack Israel,” Gallant said according to the Times of Israel who were citing the Army Radio. Multiple outlets noted that he warned that rifts in the society will be perceived by Israel's enemies as a weakness.
- Ynet reports that Gallant's ouster was preceded by "secret and vigorous" negotiations involving representatives of President Isaac Herzog to reach a compromise on the judicial overhaul, but Netanyahu's people eventually "pulled the rug" from under the negotiations after frequent changes of position.
- Meanwhile, Herzog this morning issued a statement calling on the ruling coalition to stop the legislation "for the sake of the unity of the people of Israel, for the sake of responsibility."
