Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has lost the election. National Coalition leader Petteri Orpo is set to form government after his center-right part claimed 48 seats. The far-right Finns party won 46 seats, while Marin's Social Democrats came third, with 43 seats. 99% of the vote is counted (see this link ).
- The FT reports: "Orpo said the results amounted to a “major victory” for the National Coalition and a “strong mandate for our politics”. He said he would start negotiations on forming a coalition. Orpo will need to assemble a bloc of at least 101 seats for a majority in the 200-seat parliament." "Marin's Green and leftwing coalition partners suffered heavy losses" (see the FT link here).
- This left Marin conceding defeat even though her party got more seats than the previous election.
