Rotterdam coal futures and options on the ICE exchange rose by 7.8mn tons on the month to 39mn tons, brokers told Montel. 

• Total coal futures and options cleared on the exchange increased by 10mn tons to 50.2mn tons in August, brokers said.
• Total volumes year-to-date cleared at the exchange rose by 14% to 341mn tons.
• The increase was driven by rising prices. The API 2 coal front-year contract price settled at $125.98/t on 30 August, compared with $122.6/t on 1 August.
