EU coal imports in August were seen at 3.25mn tons in August, the lowest level since at least January 2017, Kpler data showed, cited by Montel.
- This was down from 3.35mn tons in July and almost 1mn tons below August 2023 levels.
- Imports into Dutch terminals were the highest 1.46mn tons, followed by Spain with 0.56mn tons and France with 0.43mn tons.
- On the supply side, the US was the largest coal supplier to Europe in August at 0.92mn tons, followed by Australia with 0.83mn tons and Colombia with 0.64mn tons, Kpler data showed.
- ARA coal stocks have fallen to their lowest levels since April 2022, with inventories estimated at 3.9m tonnes, according to Montel calculations.
