MNI (BRUSSELS) - The European Commission said on Thursday that preliminary countervailing duties on Chinese-made electric vehicles will come into force in July 5 despite intensified consultations between the two sides in recent weeks.
The Commission said contacts would continue at technical level with a view to reaching a WTO- compatible solution, which addresses the concerns that Chinese EV exports have benefited from unfair subsidies and pose a threat of injury to the EU EV sector. The duties range from 17.4% to 37.6% with a weighted average of 20.8%. The duty for other non-cooperating companies is 37.6%.
Compared to the rates pre-disclosed on 12 June 2024, provisional duties were adjusted slightly downwards based on comments regarding the accuracy of calculations submitted by interested parties.
