BRAZIL: BCB Picks To Be Officially Announced After Lula’s China Trip

- As noted earlier, Rodolfo Froes was chosen for the position of Brazil Central Bank’s Monetary Policy director and Rodrigo Monteiro for Supervision director, O Globo reports citing government officials.
- Both candidates were appointed by finance minister Fernando Haddad, Froes has worked at Bank of America, Ritchie Capital Management, Flow Corretora, among other companies and Monteiro is a central bank career servant.
- The reports suggest the official announcements will be delayed until President Lula returns from his China trip. The trip is currently scheduled between March 26-30.
- In similar vein, headlines yesterday suggested that the new fiscal framework details may have a similar timeline. Overnight, finance minister Haddad said that details have been concluded and that health & education costs are within the fiscal rule. He concluded by saying the deadline to present the new fiscal rule is April 15.
