Jacqui Heinrich at Fox News reporting on X that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff - President Donald Trump's key conflict negotiator - will travel to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to meet with a Ukrainian delegation led by President Voldymyr Zelenskyy top advisor, Andriy Yermak. Barack Ravid at Axios reports that the meeting will take place on Wednesday.
The meeting supports statements from Waltz and Yermak yesterday that a mineral sharing agreement may be back on track after Trump acknowledged a letter from Zelenskyy stating his intent to sign and deal and work towards a ceasefire agreement with Russia.
Zelenskyy
said a few moments ago, following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Brussels: "We have an absolutely clear shared vision that real and lasting peace is possible through cooperation between Ukraine, all of Europe, and the United States. The war must end as soon as possible."
Laura Rozen at Just Security reports that, according to Fiona Hill - a leading Russia expert -, Zelenskyy may have misread Trump's intentions with the mineral deal, leading to the acrimonious Oval Office meeting: “l think that what Zelensky didn't understand, the thing that was being offered was a treaty of sorts. That only actually occurred to me as I was listening to [Trump's special envoy to Russia and Ukraine] Gen. Kellogg... Because Pres. Trump doesn't abide by any of the contracts or treaties signed by any previous government."
