SK Telecom customer data was compromised on April 18th via a cyberattack. The full extend of the security breach and for how long it was being exploited is yet unknown. The CEO has stated it’s the worst hack in the industry.
The immediate solution has been to replace SIM cards for all 23m subscribers, which is creating a SIM shortage and the government has requested no new subscribers while the replacement programme is ongoing. In itself, neutral for spreads, however the findings from the ongoing investigation and any compensation to users will be key.
