US DATA: GDPNow Sees New Low For Q2 Tracking on Trade Hit, PDFP Still Strong

Jul-01 17:10
  • The Atlanta Fed GDPNow for real GDP growth in Q2 has been revised down notably to 1.19% annualized vs 2.54% in its last published update, a new low for Q2 tracking.
  • The update shouldn’t have been a big surprise with intra-release details showing it was driven by a larger than first thought drag from net exports (-1.6pp vs -0.6pp) following Friday’s surprisingly large goods deficit in May ($105.8bn vs $85bn) – we wrote more on this at the time here (https://mni.marketnews.com/4wFNeJZ) and here (https://mni.marketnews.com/4biQnqw).
  • Underlying domestic demand still looks solid however, tracking at circa 3.0% annualized (adding 2.62pp to real GDP growth vs the 2.67pp in the previous update) after 1.7% in Q1 and 1.8% in 4Q25. It would technically be its strongest quarter since 3Q24 although was close with an average 2.9% through 2Q-3Q25.
