MNI BRIEF: China Sep Manufacturing PMI Edges Up Slightly

China's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index edged up 0.4 points to 49.8 in September, staying below the breakeven 50 mark for the sixth month, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed Tuesday.

The production sub-index rose by 1.1 points to 51.9, hitting a six-month high. While the new order sub-index remained below 50, rising by 0.2 points to 49.7.

The non-manufacturing PMI registered 50.0, down 0.3 points from the previous month. The business activity sub-index for the service sector declined by 0.4 points to 50.1, with catering, culture, sports and entertainment falling below the 50 mark as the summer vacation effect faded.
