US OUTLOOK/OPINION: Analyst Unrounded CPI Estimates - May 2025

- Ahead of Wednesday’s CPI release, Bloomberg consensus sees headline at 0.2% M/M and core at 0.3% M/M in May, but unrounded estimates are at the low end of these figures.
- We see a median core CPI estimate of 0.27% M/M (av 0.28%) for May across the fourteen unrounded figures reviewed below, in a range of 0.23-0.34%.
- It follows 0.24% M/M in April and 0.06% M/M in March.
- Headline is seen at 0.16% M/M (av also 0.16%) after 0.22% in April as gasoline prices drag.
- As for core PCE – released Jun 27 – seven preliminary estimates have a median 0.21% (with four estimates unusually all at 0.21%) or an average 0.25%, after 0.12% M/M in April. These will as usual be refined after CPI and then again following Thursday’s PPI release.
