POWER: Czech Republic on Track to Finalise Dukovany Nuclear Deal with KHNP

Jan-24 17:14

Czech Industry Minister Lukas Vlcek confirmed plans to finalise an EPC contract with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) for the Dukovany nuclear project, with the contract signing still expected this year, Vlcek said.

  • KHNP's recent agreement with Westinghouse resolved an intellectual property dispute, removing a key risk to the project.
  • Vlcek assured the schedule and budget remain unaffected, with the contract signing expected by the end of March 2025.
  • Prime Minister Petr Fiala previously announced KHNP as the preferred bidder for the project, citing superior terms, including a cost estimate of CZK 200 billion (€7.97bn) per unit if two units are built, according to WNN News.
  • The Czech Republic plans to construct four new nuclear units, starting with the fifth unit at Dukovany.
  • The first unit is targeted for test operation by 2036 and commercial operation by 2038.
